Editor,

I see in your July 17 issue (“Officials seek new transit tax”) that yet another local tax increase is being considered. When do we stop piling on the taxes? My father is 88 years old and lives on a fixed income. This means that every new sales tax, property tax or other regressive tax means he has less money for food, health care and just plain survival. A fixed income means exactly that — he gets what he gets and that’s it. There is no other income. Every time our government decides to solve another problem through a regressive tax, my 88-year-old dad has less money for food. It’s that simple. This needs to stop.

John,
You're exactly right. Every problem that government tries to fix means digging deeper into the pockets of our folks. And people wonder what is happening to the middle class? Goverment, the big insatiable beast, constantly tries to get into the wallets of our residents. Best way to handle this? Either vote out liberal, government must-get-bigger, politicians...or move out.
