Mr. Mike Caggiano of the local Peace Action group seems to believe that the reason for the Stanley Tookie Williams’ death sentence is because he is black and the victim was white ("Media portrayal of death row case prejudiced” in the Nov. 28 edition of the Daily Journal). First of all, three of the four murdered victims were Asian and one was white. But, the factual reason that Williams receiving the death sentence is because when he killed innocent victims he also committed a felony making it a death penalty matter — that being robbery. Unfortunately, blacks commit a disproportionate number of robberies that result in murdered victims.
This is not a racial issue, and whites are not being favored — that should be made clear to the public.
