I am writing this letter in response to Sue Lempert’s column in the Feb. 5 edition of the Daily Journal “Disharmony in Millbrae.” I agree that councilmembers should seek compromise and work toward accomplishing goals, however, it is not that simple in Millbrae.
I have followed Millbrae issues extremely closely and have witnessed nothing short of what I can characterize as “bullying” toward Councilwoman Ann Schneider prior to the vice mayor rotation meeting both on camera and even worse behavior off camera.
More concerning is the level and extent of collusion on decision making by council that seems to violate the Brown Act. It has always been clear to me, but was exceptionally clear during the rotation meeting that a consensus had already been reached prior to meeting.
The City Council has long ignored the issues that I have continuously brought up, even since running for the office in 2013: a lack of transparency, missing documentation from the city, inadequate finance/budgeting process, mounting debt and city management I can only describe as functioning to a minimally acceptable level.

I strongly believe the rotation situation has as much to do with different opinions on the BART development as it does with disagreements between members. I also didn’t care much for the discussion about “who was your daddy, and what did he do” in the column.
I would rather my councilmembers fight for what is best for the city rather than hold hands and run off the cliff like a pack of lemmings.
