Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me! 2024 BLT Measure W is very similar to the 2015 Measure W except it eliminated the words “senior/disabled services.” This time, the city did not deceptively hide the words “for general government use,” and yet, the city is in a $5 million deficit if you trust the latest figures.
Before we give the City Council and city staff another “blank check,” we need an independent forensic audit of the 2015 Measure W funds. The city has put the 65,000 midincome to low-income residents in debt approving unfunded projects and putting up city-owned properties as collateral for their reckless spending.
The ballot language states it will only end “with voter approval.” That means the good residents will have to collect a percentage of signatures of voters to get it on the ballot knowing full well our taxpayer dollars will be used against any effort to repeal it.
Let’s not try to right another wrong like 2015 Measure W, vote no on 2024 BLT Measure W — no more blank checks.
