Editor,

If you get your new information from the internet, you need to know and understand that 97% of the sites that post news bites and click baits, are just posting their opinions of the news, not the actual news. These opinions contain speculation and some misinformation.  Research on Google reveals that some sites are the just the opinion of one person or a small group; some sites are opinions of individual editors or letter writers to individual newspapers across America; some sites are the right-leaning opinions of the banking/finance industry; some sites aren’t even in America (UK and Australia); and some sites are far-right leaning (ie: Fox).

Good morning, Michael

You wrote, “The only true news sites are ABC, CBS, NBC.” A lot of the current acrimony we see… from both sides… in the media started about eight years ago with Donald Trump’s 2016 candidacy. After the 2016 election, the Harvard Kennedy School researched the tone of campaign coverage, i.e. negative or positive, by different news outlets. Coverage of Donald Trump by ABC and NBC was 81 and 83 percent negative, respectively. CBS coverage was nearly 90 percent negative.

Over time, have ABC, CBS and NBC become today’s “only true news sites” as you have suggested? Your “Google research” undoubtedly led to websites that show Fox News being a “far right” news outlet. That same research also shows MSNBC firmly entrenched on the far left. So, where are ABC, CBS and NBC on that spectrum? That’s an easy one… those outlets are definitively rated as leaning left.

Michael… are you saying left leaning news outlets are “the only true news sites” we should use for fact checking? If by “true” you mean accurate and unbiased reporting, there are probably better choices than ABC, CBS and NBC for John Q. and Jane Q. Public to consult for news and information.

Surprised the LTE doesn't mention AP..

Dirk van Ulden

Well Mr. Oberg - now we know why you are so misinformed when you submit LTEs. Don't make me laugh that you consider those three credible news sources. Their news is strictly entertainment.

Dirk,

If you consider the three MSM sites mentioned as strictly entertainment then you can see why OAN, Fox etc have me ROTFLMAO on the other side.
