Cherie gave a clear explanation of what, as well as how, we have arrived at our collective predicament.
The problematic course by developers and cities to not provide adequate parking in new developments is simply short sighted and just kicking the can down the street that eventually will lead to unwanted consequences.
"Cherie Zaslawsky is a private writing coach/English teacher who works with high school students, focusing on improving their critical thinking and essay writing skills."
And yet the article lacked all kinds of critical thinking on the subject.
The first problem here is that San Mateo is not the "Suburb" anymore - maybe it was 50 years ago.
It's part of the Metropolitan area San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose - locally it is referred to as SF Bay Area. For example is SF airport in SF? Where do the SF 49ers play?
When people have a really hard to time to tell where SF ends and SSF starts ... or San Bruno ... or Burlingame ... or San Mateo ... or Foster City ... then you entered an area where it could be one large city or many small neighborhoods. This area choose cities, because this way you can waste way more money and make each city look like a small suburb instead of being part of the big Metropolitan area.

Agree- -only way to get these project through is to assume that every one will walk or ride a bike to the grocery store, etc.
