Editor,

Our friend and neighbor, Michael Weinhauer, helping us with Measure P (extending the earlier measure which limits excessive building heights in the city of San Mateo) has been personally attacked in leaflets distributed at a recent Measure P meeting. We, as friends and neighbors who care about the rapid growth in our city, take offense to this attack. It is out of line, vicious and attempts to detract from the core issue of preserving quality of our neighborhood.

I completely agree with you in that scandalous attacks should not be part of our public discourse. We need to act with civility towards one another and respect the views and opinions of all that participate in the discussions. That is why it was so troubling to me when Anna Kuhre and Evan Powell both called Mayor Rick Bonilla's campaign as " violating ethics regulation and sleazy". None of this type of behavior belongs in our debates and hopefully we can move past such attacks on characters.
