Editor,

This might go against the current sentiments, but I think the sporting goods store that wants to sell firearms in San Carlos may have a point in their lawsuit against the city (“City may face lawsuit for gun store decision” in the Feb. 20 edition of the Daily Journal). I do not know if they were required to “take steps other gun stores in the city were not.” That may be true. It is provable they signed a 10-year lease and spent $125,000 to improve the space when the city said “Oh by the way, sorry for the late heads-up, but you can’t open here.” It is quite possible all these allegations are true and San Carlos will lose this lawsuit to the tune of millions that could be spent better elsewhere. The city moving the goalpost in the middle of the game is OK by some.

This is a no brainer, the City of San Carlos acted in bad faith. Take the lawsuit to a jury, do not settle.
