I am writing to express my deep concern over U.S. Rep. Kevin Mullin’s recent guest perspective published in the Daily Journal. In his piece, Mullin not only misrepresents the intentions of President Trump and the Republican base but also engages in a deceitful and hypocritical attack that is unbecoming of a public servant.
His portrayal of the GOP as promoting extremism is not only false but also inflammatory, contributing to the very division he claims to decry. Mullin’s call for unity rings hollow when he simultaneously vilifies one political party for holding the presidency and majorities in the Senate and Congress yet has long been silent on California’s supermajority one-party rule. True balance in governance comes from respectful dialogue and compromise, not from attacking and misrepresenting the opposition.
I urge U.S. Rep. Mullin to engage in constructive discourse rather than spreading divisive rhetoric. Our community deserves representation that fosters unity and progress, not discord and falsehoods. And can someone please get him a thesaurus; his constant use of the word extreme to describe Republican and the weather is unbearable.
Thanks for your letter, Ms. Xuereb urging Mullin to engage in constructive discourse. I doubt it will happen as we’ve seen his actions in the past and there’s no indication to think he’ll evolve. As for getting Mullin a thesaurus (good one), I’m not sure it will help. I imagine Mr. Mullin is allowed only to use the words his Democrat overlords allow him to use.
Thanks for your well-written response, Grace. I'm guessing Rep. Mullin will read it, as, of course, other DJ readers. This is what democracy is all about - Mullin represents us, so articulating your thoughts in the DJ's letters forum is most helpful.
