Eliana Armstrong’s May 20 letter “The truth about CO2” falls short of facts. She claims to be a scientist but does not mention her background.
Editor,
Eliana Armstrong’s May 20 letter “The truth about CO2” falls short of facts. She claims to be a scientist but does not mention her background.
I am also a scientist, an oceanographer and certified consulting meteorologist. I know that the 97 percent consensus has been repeated enough to make people believe it to be true, but it is, in fact, a lie which has been rebutted.
The Cook study attempted to survey 10,000 scientists, yet the author whittled the number of responses to 77 people (not scientists!) to meet their agenda. There is no consensus on whether the warming which occurred recently, since 1970, is anthropogenic. Certainly the warming occurring since the Little Ice Age, since about 1850, is not CO2 related.
Similar warming has occurred previously, in the 1930s, for example, when most of the high temperature records in the United States were set. That was well before any increase in CO2.
The historical record in ice cores confirms that each time there were large fluctuations in temperature and CO2, temperature increased first, then CO2. In other words, temperature increases cause increases in CO2, not the other way around.
I suggest you look at NOAA’s Climate Reference Network which since 2004 has shown no warming, apart from the 2016 El Niño event. That data is in pristine areas, and therefore does not need the adjustments for urban effects that provide the opportunity to adjust the historical temperature record.
Man has always preferred warmer temperatures; we settled Greenland, and later had the Renaissance in warmer times, but had the Black Death, and the pilgrims almost perished during the Little Ice Age.

Strange that just about the entire world's governments as well as the Vatican 'buys' the human caused climate model that you say is a hoax. I think I"ll go with the overwhelming majority. I'll leave the chapter and verse to Ms. Armstrong to defend. I'd saythe chances of destroying the futures of our kids is a far better choice than sitting back and hoping that you are correct. I don't see any downside in kicking fossil fuel dependence at all. I certainly see many upsides in being far more deliberate in our wasteful ways.
Mr. Caggiano, shouldn’t you and kids who believe in this hoax be living it up for the next 12 years? According to those geniuses, Ocasio-Cortex and Crazy Bernie, the world will end in 12 years. You should already feel quite lucky, since you’ve lived 3 years past Al Gore’s inconvenient truth of the end of the world in 2016.
I take it you weren't in the Bay Area when the world ended for the town of Paradise and the Bay was filled with smoke for a week.
According to Wikipedia, John Cook published a paper in 2013 that concluded that 97.1% of research papers that took a position on the causes of climate change agreed they were related to human activity. The problem with science is that nothing is 100% known. Few scientists would say that 100% of climate change is due to human activity. There are various factors to climate change, but 97.1% percent agree that "human activity is very likely causing most of the current warming" (this is from the introduction of Cook's paper). Mr. Cohen apparently got his degree and certification in an alternate reality college, or he is possibly suffering from truthiness degenerative disease. He should seek treatment before submitting another letter.
Completely ignoring the point of my letter that Cook’s paper has been debunked as a lie and continuing to cite it as a reference in Wikipedia only reinforces my point.
Refusing to address the other facts that I mention and insulting my educational background with no basis further weakens your arguments.
The most frightening aspect is that you and the public are so easily brainwashed without questioning the facts you have been spoon fed.
The science as I presented is out there if you practice due diligence.
Data manipulated to achieve an agenda is not science.
Quijote – since you’re such a rabid believer in global warming, maybe you can put your money where your mouth is and give your entire estate to the government within 12 years, since the world is ending per those two paragons of intellect, Ocasio-Cortex and Crazy Bernie. I’ll give you a pass on Al Gore’s first end of the world prediction in 2016. Gore probably based his prediction on his carbon footprint in using private jets and owning multiple homes.
