A resident of Burlingame, he is survived by his wife of nine years, Peggy. Predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Mary Anne, he leaves children Linda, Bill, Diane (Tony), Sue (Ross), stepdaughter Geni (Jim), grandchildren Wendy (Patrick), Mark, Ross, Jonathan (Kate), and Austin, great-granddaughter Kristina, Gabriele and Konrad Thuernau, many other beloved members of his extended families.
Born on the family farm in Iowa, he served in the Army Air Force during World War II, spent a year in Quito, Ecuador, and graduated summa cum laude from Creighton University. A retired special agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, he personified the FBI motto of “Fidelity, Bravery, Integrity.” He was an energetic man who lived a long, happy, healthy life. He was always surrounded with people who loved him and enjoyed his wit and song for every occasion. He will be profoundly missed.
Rosary 4 p.m. Sunday, May 20, St. Catherine of Siena Church, 1310 Bayswater Ave., Burlingame. Mass of Christian burial 10 a.m. Monday, May 21. Interment at Skylawn Cemetery. Donations in Robert’s memory may be made to St. Catherine of Siena Church for stained-glass window restoration.
