Marie Josephine Heathcote, 86, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025 in Burlingame, CA. She was born on June 22, 1939 and was raised in Oakland, CA. Marie was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, kindness, and an unwavering faith in God. Marie and Kirk celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary earlier this year, all of which they have been extremely active in Our Lady of Angels Parish and School. So many of you who knew Marie will remember her as “The Cake Lady”. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is predeceased by her parents John and Josephine Slenter, her brothers Tommy Slenter, John Slenter, and Bobby Slenter, and her granddaughter Danae Tulich. She is survived by her husband, Kirk Heathcote, her four children Michelle Whalley, Karen Lawson (Fred Lawson), Eugene Heathcote, and Michael Heathcote (Alexis Heathcote), her eight grandchildren, Janelle McMullen, Alyssa Milisci, Ryan Whalley, Rick Lawson, Matt Lawson, Ryder James Heathcote, Shane Heathcote, and Dylan Heathcote, and four great grandchildren, Jackson McMullen, Tyler McMullen, Kylie McMullen, and Kennedy Milisci, and brothers Bill Slenter and Joe Slenter.
A special thank you to Mills Estate Villa and their amazing, caring staff who took wonderful care of Marie for the past four years. Also special recognition for the Kaiser SSF Hospice group who did such a fantastic job with all of Marie’s needs in the last couple of weeks, and with their support, Marie had a very peaceful passing.
A Rosary will be held at Our Lady of Angels Church, 1721 Hillside Drive, Burlingame, on October 13, 2025 at 7 p.m., and a Funeral Mass will be held also at Our Lady of Angels Church on October 14, 2025 at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow in the Garden next to the church.
