LTC Alan Henry Lubke

Age, 79, of San Bruno, passed away on December 7, 2018. He is preceded in death by wife Ursula and stepson Randy, parents Oscar and Genevieve. Survived by stepson Michael (Sigrid), step-grandchildren Janina and Kevin-Alan. He also survived by brother Norman (Barbara), sister Mary, nephew Theodore (Anne-Marie), nieces Shawn (Marlon) Allison (Vincent) Mary (John) Theresa (Dean), five great-nephews and two great-nieces. He leaves behind many West Point brothers and sisters, and friends.

Born and raised in Farmington, MN, Alan was the valedictorian of his Farmington High School graduating class, where he played three sports: football, basketball, and baseball. After graduating from West Point, Alan completed Ranger and Airborne training at Fort Bragg and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division as an Artillery Officer, beginning a long and distinguished military career. Alan was stationed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and the Presidio in San Francisco; he also served in the Pentagon in Washington Dc. Alan served one tour in Vietnam: an advisor to the South Vietnamese, he led the war’s first all United States offensive operation. For his valor in Vietnam, he received the Bronze Star and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He retired as a Lieutenant colonel after 24 years in the military. In the last leg of his professional journey, Alan worked for a private company, Aesculap, and for several years as Assistant County Recorder for San Mateo County.
