Jeremy Louis Witt, age 61, passed away on June 12, 2017 in Fairfield, CA after a long illness. He was born on January 19, 1956 in San Mateo, CA to Dr. Irving and Josephine Witt. Jerry was the oldest of their two sons and he is survived by his brother, Jordan Witt. He is also survived by two of his three beloved daughters, Jessica Witt and Emma Witt. His eldest daughter, Loretta Witt died at age 30 this past December, 2016, and Jeremy was still grieving this loss when he passed away.
Jeremy (Jerry) has many aunts, uncles and lifelong friends whom he cared deeply about in addition to his immediate family. He thoroughly enjoyed all social events and connections with these folks, and all who knew him are saddened by his passing. He was vibrant, intelligent and enjoyed gathering with loved ones to celebrate holidays, life events and/or a great meal.
Jerry was raised in San Mateo and was very proud of his hometown. He received a national writing award when he attended Aragon High School in San Mateo, and his aptitude in the scholastic world propelled him onward to attend UC Berkeley. He graduated with a degree in Economics and decided upon a career in Public Accounting and became certified. He was a member of the California Board of Accountants. After working for a few years at a CPA firm in San Mateo, Jerry moved with his young family to Napa, CA. He joined the CPA firm of Ganze and Company, where he worked for the rest of his career.
Jeremy was a person who had two passions: he was an expert downhill skier and an avid road cyclist. Both of these sports were centerpieces of his life beyond work and family. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, backpacking, hiking, kayaking, and swimming in addition to his two main sports. Jerry also loved to listen to music, attend rock concerts, collect wine, and root for his home-teams, the Giants, the 49ers, the Warriors and the Cal Bears.
He always mentioned and enjoyed the rivalry between the Bears and Stanford, never letting anyone forget his allegiance to his alma mater.
Lastly, Jeremy loved reading. After college he tirelessly continued to read a variety of books and publications, and he made sure to read to his three daughters when they were young. In recent years, when he became less active, he made weekly trips to the public library.
