SAN FRANCISCO — Authorities are investigating the suspected homicide of a woman whose body was found stuffed in a suitcase floating in the San Francisco Bay.
Police say the unidentified woman, who appears to be in her 30s, was in the fetal position inside the suitcase found near the Embarcadero and Folsom Street around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday.
Police say the body was discovered after a young child saw the floating suitcase and told a relative who alerted firefighters nearby.
Police Lt. Mike Stasko says there is no obvious cause of death. He says the suitcase, which has no owner tags, appears to have been in the water for a couple of days.
The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
