LOS ANGELES -- A state commission has joined the investigation into Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's use of complimentary tickets to entertainment and sporting events. The executive director of the state's Fair Political Practices Commission said Tuesday that the commission was asked to investigate allegations that Villaraigosa may have received reportable gifts and that some of those may have exceeded gift limits. Commission spokesman Roman Porter says the agency can assess penalties of up to $5,000 per violation. The Los Angeles County district attorney's office and the city's Ethics Commission also are investigating. Villaraigosa's spokeswoman says the mayor attended the events as part of his job.
