A 17-year-old Serra High School student died Monday, Aug. 27 after a car crash on the 15000 block of Skyline Boulevard in unincorporated San Mateo County.
The senior at the San Mateo high school was identified by San Mateo County Coroner Robert Foucrault as Blake Bottarini, 17.
He left for school in a red Toyota Tacoma and never showed up, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Art Montiel.
He was traveling north on Skyline Boulevard when he veered to the right and went down an embankment just north of Skeggs Point between Kings Mountain and State Route 84, Montiel said. San Mateo County sheriff’s deputies found the vehicle at 12:48 p.m. and Bottarini was pronounced dead at the scene.
Serra released a statement expressing profound sadness at the news and asking that the school community pray for his mother, father and twin brother.
“Blake will always be remembered as a kind and caring young man. His family, friends and Serra classmates were very important to him, and he was a very important person in their lives,” the school said in the statement, adding that counselors would be available.
Montiel said the crash occurred on a straightaway. No one else was injured. The road reopened at about 4:38 p.m.
