The First Amendment Coalition’s push for the county to ensure hearings to fire its top law enforcement officer be open to the public may no longer be needed as the sheriff herself has said she does not want them to be closed.

As part of removal proceedings allowed under voter-approved Measure A, Sheriff Christina Corpus’ legal team had asked that they remained closed. The coalition threatened to sue to open the hearings, alleging that having them closed eliminated transparency, and Corpus is now using that call against her and the county to say that “the people of San Mateo County deserve to hear the truth directly, not filtered through political agendas, biased narratives, erroneous reports, or closed door deliberations.”

This story has been referred to as a soap opera by other DJ readers. Maybe Christina wants to use video from the hearing and other proceedings for a reality TV show?

Do you think ABC’s Dan Noyes will be the “play-by-play announcer?”
