Sheriff Ken Binder now has a full executive team leading the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office after internally promoting former captains Frank Dal Porto and Mark Myers to assistant sheriffs.
Dal Porto will serve as assistant sheriff of corrections, overseeing San Mateo County’s two correctional facilities, and Myers will be assistant sheriff of operations, overseeing patrol services and investigations.
Binder said the promotion comes at an “important period of growth and healing for our organization,” in a press release Friday.
“Known for their steady leadership, both Assistant Sheriff Dal Porto and Assistant Sheriff Myers have tremendous institutional knowledge and experience,” Binder said in a press release Friday. “They will play a key role in ensuring the Sheriff’s Office delivers the highest standards within our correctional facilities and throughout our patrol service areas.”
The promotions round out the executive team of the Sheriff’s Office, which has seen at least one vacancy since September 2024, under former Sheriff Christina Corpus’ helm. Between November 2024 and Corpus’ removal in October 202, there were only two staffed executives — the sheriff and her undersheriff.
After joining the Sheriff’s Office in 1998 as a correctional officer, Dal Porto rose through the ranks and most recently was captain of the Headquarters Patrol Bureau. In this role, he served as chief of police for the contracted towns of Woodside and Portola Valley, an unincorporated county including North Fair Oaks.

As captain, Dal Porto also previously oversaw the Maple Street Correctional Center and oversaw capital projects for the Sheriff’s Office. He has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice management.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve as assistant sheriff and see it as a true privilege and honor to be entrusted with leading the Corrections Division,” Dal Porto said in a press release. “I look forward to serving our employees, the community and incarcerated persons with integrity and a continued commitment to professionalism and safety.”
As assistant sheriff of operations, Myers will oversee patrol service and investigations for all of unincorporated areas in San Mateo County as well as contract cities. He will also lead the Transit Bureau, which provides law enforcement service for Caltrain, including in San Francisco and Santa Clara counties.
Myers began his law enforcement career at the San Mateo Police Department before joining the Sheriff’s Office in 2005. Most recently, he served as police chief of the city of San Carlos, which contracts its public safety services from the Sheriff’s Office. Before this role, he served as captain of the Headquarters Patrol bureau from 2021 to 2023.
“I’m very excited to continue serving our contract cities and unincorporated communities in this new role alongside the incredible men and women of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office,” Myers said in the press release. “I look forward to supporting our team to ensure they receive high-quality training and safety equipment so they can perform their jobs at the highest level for our communities.”
Both Dal Porto and Myers will oversee their farmer bureaus until replacements for captains are made, according to the press release. Their promotions are effective Jan. 18.
