A Redwood City resident who allegedly attacked a Pink Pantherz Coffee Stop employee and a San Mateo County sheriff’s deputy is being evaluated for mental competency before criminal proceedings, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
The man, Nicolas Ibarra Jr., 35, allegedly attacked an employee at Pink Pantherz after he ordered a green tea and tried to enter the business, which has no customer entry. When the employee locked the door and window, Ibarra allegedly became enraged, ripping the window from the walk-up and pulling the employee out the window, the DA’s Office said.
Ibarra then allegedly walked into El Camino and attempted to hit passing cars, at which point a deputy driving by attempted to stop him. Ibarra allegedly attacked the deputy, shoving his fingers in the deputy’s eyes.
A doctor is evaluating Ibarra for mental competency. He is charged with three felonies. If he is found not competent during a hearing Jan. 31, he will likely enter a state hospital, District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
Ibarra was found guilty of felony assault in 2015. He has two pending misdemeanor charges against him, one for impersonating a police officer — he was allegedly found outside of Sequoia Station wearing a police officer uniform — and another for misdemeanor battery, for which he allegedly smacked a phone out of a woman’s hand as she attempted to call the police on him for repeatedly asking her to have sex with him at the Sequoia Station Safeway, Wagstaffe said.
