Intensifying thunderstorms dumped up to 1.5 inches of rain in the Florida Panhandle and southeastern Georgia. Storm clouds spread into Mississippi and Alabama.
Shifting winds pushed snow from Indiana and Ohio into Michigan, northwestern Pennsylvania and parts of New York, where accumulations reached 4 inches.
Most of the Plains and Mississippi River Valley were dry, and the Southwest enjoyed clear skies.
Showers in northern California and southern Oregon dissipated by midday.
Occasionally heavy rain dampened Washington and Idaho. Snow fell in the higher elevations of the Cascades in the Pacific Northwest.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a morning low of 13 degrees below zero in Orr, Minn., to a midday high of 81 degrees in Fort Pierce, Fla.<
