The Half Moon Bay City Council is interested in adopting several protections for renters in the near future, with some councilmembers also open to rent stabilization, though such a measure would be pursued separately and likely at a later time.

A renter protection ordinance could include minimum lease terms, enhanced notice provisions, relocation assistance and tenant-landlord mediation, and is expected to be the subject of a public hearing in January.

Am puzzled why these elected officials still cling to the notion that rent control is the panacea for fixing our impacted housing markets. Building less office space coupled with more housing is the only solution. Hope the voters in Half Moon Bay respond the same way the voters in Pacifica did last year and solidly reject this attempt to move backwards.

Amazing...HMB has stopped housing development for years now... going back to the 1980's.....they were finally sued a few years ago for illegitimately stopping a development and lost $19M in a negotiated settlement with a developer....and subsequently, many of their public services....some of the same council members that were involved in the above are now back on the council...and they now want rent control to solve a problem they helped to create.

Great news! Given rising rent and eviction numbers, they should move on this as soon as possible. Also: build more housing.
