Abby Veeser has been named as the new finance director for the city of San Mateo, bringing more than 25 years of municipal government experience to the role.
As finance director, Veeser will manage the Finance Department, including overseeing the city’s annual $272 million operating budget, the Capital Improvement Program totaling $61.5 million for Fiscal Year 2025–26, and core services including accounting and financial reporting, budgeting, treasury and revenue management, payroll, purchasing and accounts payable, and debt service. She will also serve as treasurer of the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department, according to the city.
“I am excited to serve the San Mateo community in this role. I have had the privilege of working for the City of San Mateo organization at varying stages of my career and I look forward to working with the City team to maintain both its fiscal sustainability and strong work culture,” Veeser said in a press release.
Veeser will take over for the current Finance Director Karen Huang, who is leaving the city Aug. 29 to spend time with family. Veeser starts Aug. 31.
