A man convicted of felony escape charges after walking away from an interview at a drug treatment program in San Mateo while his probation officer was out to lunch was sentenced to two years in state prison Wednesday, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.

Salvador Velasquez Aguirre, 48, received 264 days credit for time served. He was in custody for failing to register as a sex offender when he was dropped off for an admission interview at Project Ninety in the vicinity of Second Avenue and South Claremont Street by his probation officer on Feb. 24. He was not guarded, and walked out the front door during a trip to the bathroom.
