Deputies from the San Mateo Sheriff's Office arrested a man Sunday night in unincorporated San Mateo County for an alleged attempted burglary, possessing burglary tools, resisting arrest, vandalism and having two outstanding warrants.
At around 8:30 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, located on the 2500 block of Sand Hill Road, for a report of a suspicious person on the property with bolt cutters.
Upon arrival, deputies were provided with a description of the suspect and his last known location on the large property. As deputies checked the property, they located the suspect, who fled on foot toward Interstate 280.
A perimeter was established and, with the help of a sheriff's office K-9, the suspect — identified as 46-year-old Ronald D. Simpson of Castro Valley — was located hiding in heavy shrubbery and taken into custody.
Deputies found numerous burglary tools and a damaged security fence in the area where Simpson was first located.
Deputies arrested Simpson, who was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of attempted burglary, vandalism, possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest and two outstanding theft related warrants.
