The man, Trey Duus, allegedly entered a classroom at 2 p.m., grabbed a 16-year-old male student and tried to pull him out of the room, saying that the student needed to come with him because he was the police, Gallagher said.
Duus is being held in custody on a $110,000 bail, with a preliminary hearing set for Aug. 1, Gallagher said.
A teacher intervened, causing the suspect to flee, Redwood City police said. Duus reportedly told staff that he had a gun and not to touch him as he fled. He also allegedly had a knife and was vandalizing the women’s bathroom, Gallagher said.Â
When police responded, the school, at 1201 Brewster Ave., was put on lockdown while officers searched for the suspect. They found him as he was leaving a school building on the west side of the campus. The suspect resisted when officers tried to detain him and they used unspecified less-lethal force options to subdue him.Â
Support was provided by Redwood City police to ensure all students and staff were safe and the matter was resolved. In an abundance of caution, students and staff were directed to stay in classrooms, according to a statement from the Sequoia Union High School District.
