Car rolls, teens injured
Two teens were able to escape safely after rolling their car into a fence and two trees in Belmont yesterday.
At about 4 p.m., police and medics responded to a report of a single car rollover in the 600 block of Alameda de las Pulgas. The 16-year-old driver, from Redwood City, rolled the car into the fence after running a stop sign and speeding past other drivers. A 17-year-old boy from Hillsborough was also in the car. Both boys were taken to Stanford Medical Center for minor injuries.
Witnesses told police they saw the green 2000 Toyota 4-runner driving erratically on the 700 block of Alameda de las Pulgas. The driver passed a car on the wrong side of the road and then ran a stop sign at Arbor Avenue. The driver continued to speed north and ran another stop sign at Mezes Avenue.
When the driver entered the 600 block, he lost control of the car and rolled over into the fence and trees. The car ended on its roof and the boys were able to escape on their own.
The block was closed for a little more than an hour as police investigated.
Lights return to San Carlos
The lights are back on for residents in San Francisco and San Carlos after two separate power outages earlier Monday, Pacific Gas and Electric Co. spokesman Paul Moreno said.
Power was restored at 1:52 p.m. to the 122 San Carlos customers in the 1300 block of Belmont Avenue and the 1300 and 1400 block of Laurel Street who lost power after a squirrel got into some power equipment, causing a fuse to blow, Moreno said. The squirrel perished during the ordeal. Residents were without power since about 11 a.m.
The last 11 residents without power in San Francisco were restored at around 3:45 p.m. Monday, Moreno said.
Two hundred and thirty-seven Pacific Gas & Electric Co. customers near the Embarcadero on Front and Vallejo streets lost power because of equipment failure, Moreno said. Most customers lost power around 12:20 p.m.
