o On Monday, the Burlingame City Council agreed to de-annex 1125 Jackling Drive to the town of Hillsborough. The 3-2 vote, with Vice Mayor Jerry Deal and Councilman Michael Brownrigg dissenting, will allow the property to be moved to Hillsborough.
Under the agreement, the property owner will pay a $5,000 fee for staff time, $9,000 for the remaining 28 years of storm drain assessment and a payment of up to $7,200 for possible property tax revenue loss in the next three years.
The property has a Hillsborough street address and access but the land is actually in Burlingame, which the owner, Maurissa Hefferan, has noted causes problems when there are calls for emergency services. Hefferan requested the land become part of Hillsborough to avoid future confusion.
o Representatives from PG&E were on hand at the March 7, 2011, Foster City Council meeting with a rebate check in recognition of the city's efforts to save energy. The city earned the $33,825 rebate by installing 260 Light Emitting Diode (LED) public street lights north of State Route 92 and along Metro Center Boulevard between Foster City and Vintage Park boulevards.
Education
o Matt Biggar, San Mateo Union High School District associate superintendent of instruction, will leave the district at the end of June to enter a doctorate program at Stanford University. He has served the district for nine years, first as principal at Burlingame High School. At Stanford, he plans to work on research involving environmental education. A process to find a replacement will commence soon.
