Two San Mateo County libraries will begin a pilot program to provide free diaper supplies for families in need, after approval by the Board of Supervisors of $50,000 in funding.
With the board’s approval, two San Mateo County Libraries locations — Belmont and Pacifica — will now distribute kits that include both wipes and diapers during special giveaways from October to January. Each kit will hold 80 diapers and 200 wipes.
Proposed by Supervisor Ray Mueller, the goal is to help ease the financial burden on families by providing this costly necessity for free.
“No family should have to make the impossible decision between paying rent, putting food on the table or taking care of their baby using necessary supplies such as diapers.” Mueller said in a press release. “I am grateful to the San Mateo County library system for partnering with my office on this free diaper pilot to support families and children during this year’s holiday season.”
The cost of the initial pilot is estimated at $50,000, at $22 per kit, and would fund at least 1,800 diaper kits for under-resourced families who may be experiencing economic distress at a total of 12 distribution events to be held through Feb. 15.

If one can't pay rent, then they shouldn't certainly bear children until they are financially able. Perhaps when a woman gives birth, a credit check should be made to see she can afford the child? When buying a car or a home on credit, a credit check is used to determine if that individual can afford to make the monthly payments, if they can't, no loan is provided. The great news is there are thousands of families waiting to adopt newborns who are financially able to care for that child without the need for government redistribution of diapers etc...
Cannot believe someone wants to reward people to crank out kids they cannot afford, then give them something that they should be paying for themselves. Why isn't Muller handing out birth control pills instead, and the public schools giving classes on, not breeding and how much money time, etc. it will cost to be a responsible person if you do decide to be stupid. The government should stop being stupid and giving people tax credits to overpopulate the earth. How ignorant is that, then complain about the climate crisis cause by Overpopulation. Please if you are one of the stupids... Do not Breed, Drive a Car and Do not Vote. This place already is scairy stupid enough.
Well yes, birth control should be free and available. Sex education should be taught in to all kids in schools from a young age. Health care, including abortion services, should be free and available. None of that is true and I'm guessing you would be against making any of it happen?
Maybe we should take the babies away from parents (as long as they are white and healthy) and give them to good Christian folk who can afford to raise them? Yeah, that's it. Yay! Problem solved and no tax money spent and let those babies born to poor parents starve! Everyone knows people are poor because they are stupid! Everyone knows that women who have sex and get pregnant are evil and stupid and deserve whatever they get! Right, Goring?
