Not guilty plea in attempted murder
A Redwood City man accused of shooting a woman several times after she reportedly rebuffed his romantic advances pleaded not guilty to multiple felonies in Superior Court.
Pablo Ramirez, 40, is charged with attempted murder, intentional use of a firearm to cause great bodily injury, infliction of great bodily injury and assault with a deadly weapon. He was ordered to stand trial July 31 and remains in custody on no-bail status.
Ramirez was arrested Jan. 10 in Atherton, shortly after police say he shot a 34-year-old woman four times in the head, chest and arm while the two sat in her car in Redwood City. He was reportedly drunk and covered in blood.
The woman told police Ramirez had repeatedly sought to be her boyfriend but she always declined. On Tuesday, she agreed to give him a ride home. At his Redwood City home on the 1300 block of Hancock Street, he asked once again to date her and she said no.
At that point, Ramirez pulled a .25-caliber gun and fired it at close range after announcing "If you’re not going to be mine, you won’t be anyone’s,” according to prosecutors.
Ramirez left the car and the woman drove for help. An Atherton police officer later matched Ramirez’s description to a man spotted entering a taxi. The officer pulled the cab over and arrested Ramirez after confirming his identity.
