Melissa Moreno, former interim chancellor of San Mateo County Community College District, began her initial term in the permanent position April 25 as the Board of Trustees approved her employee contract.
The three-year term contract includes an annual salary of $404,250 and does not include a cost of living adjustment or “me too” clause. The contract includes 225 hours of vacation per year, 75 of which can be cashed out annually, and full health and insurance benefits.
“I think we’re all very excited to start the Moreno era at the district,” Board of Trustees President John Pimentel said. “So, good luck with everything that you’re about to take on, and that you’re already doing.”
Moreno served as interim to the district during the last year and was announced to take the chancellor position April 12. She was previously president of Skyline College in San Bruno from August 2020 to March 2023. Prior to her time at Skyline College, Moreno served as dean of Education Programs, an adjunct faculty and vice president of the School of Extended Learning at Santa Barbara City College for more than 13 years. She holds a bachelor’s in cultural anthropology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a doctorate from Santa Barbara College of Law.
