The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative announced Wednesday a new fund dedicated to supporting residents in the southern part of San Mateo County through grants of $25,000 to $100,000 to nonprofits, schools and municipalities working on issues of education, housing, homelessness, immigration, transportation and workforce development, according to a Facebook post by the organization.

Dubbed the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Community Fund, the grants are aimed at addressing local needs identified by residents and leaders as top priorities for their community. Funding requests are expected to be evaluated only for projects and organizations in Belle Haven, East Palo Alto, North Fair Oaks, Redwood City and will be considered in two tiers, in awards ranging from $25,000 to $50,000 and $51,000 to $100,000, according to the fund’s website.
