The 48-year-old woman accused of beating her longtime boyfriend with a bottle and sodomizing him with a metal walking cane after a drinking binge at a Belmont motel will stand trial on multiple felonies in October.
Debra Rae Emmett is set for jury trial Oct. 11 on charges of felony domestic violent, penetration with a foreign object, inflicting great bodily injury, ripping a phone cable from a wall and petty theft. She has pleaded not guilty.
After a preliminary hearing filled with graphic testimony, Judge Craig Parsons found sufficient evidence to try Emmett. During that same hearing, the man Emmett reportedly abused testified that he forgave his girlfriend and blamed the alcohol they ingested.
On Nov. 18, Emmett and her boyfriend of approximately seven years were drinking heavily at the Belmont Palms Motel. The couple had been sober at a local shelter but decided to escape for a few days. During an ensuing argument, Emmett allegedly beat the man with a bottle and a metal cane before sexually assaulting him with the same object. Emmett is also charged with yanking the phone from the motel wall.Â
