Caltrain is expected to present a plan Tuesday to install parking meters in 16 spaces on West Lane rather than seize them to expand the Burlingame train depot platform.
The train authority had planned to take the parking spaces next to the tracks, but shops on West Lane like Rock 'n Roll Auto Stereo and the Bark Station Grooming Salon protested and said the spots were needed for customer parking.
Caltrain's planned proposal is to halt the building owner's lease on the lot, plant meters and share the sliver of asphalt with the city.
The 25-cents-an-hour meters would be limited to six hours to discourage Caltrain customers from using them, said Syed Murtuza, Burlingame assistant public works director.
Caltrain also made a deal Dec. 22 with Mike Harvey Honda to lease parking lots on East Lane for three years, according to a city staff report. Harvey would also lease a lot on West Lane from the city for three years.
Pez Museum Owner Gary Doss said Thursday he plans to ask the City Council to consider letting the West Lane building keep its lease with Caltrain on the unmetered parking spots.
Sam Sampson, the building's manager, said the owners have held the yearly renewed $434-a-month lease since 1981.

The independent car stereo shop handles four or five cars a day and enjoyed meter-free parking, Doss said. Similarly, Sampson said the Bark Station's owner "threw her life savings" into her shop and could be hurt by new meters.
As an owner, Caltrain is not obligated to deal the with shops or the city.
Jayme Kunz, a Caltrain spokeswoman, said last week the rail authority would find a solution "to maintain parking at current levels."
The city plan also postpones building a $950,000 plaza on the lot near the Burlingame train depot because the city cannot afford it, the staff report said.
It would also close South Lane to cars.
The City Council is expected to detail parking plans at its next meeting at 7 p.m., Jan. 17, at 501 Primrose Road.
