In Burlingame’s Broadway area, a sip-and-stroll wine walk May 14 will allow residents to meet over 30 local business owners, interact with their neighbors and enjoy wine and appetizers, organizers said.
Thirty-four local businesses will be participating and pouring different wines for the event, which will be held 6-8 p.m., Susan Baker, president and CEO of the Burlingame Chamber of Commerce, said.
The Chamber of Commerce regularly hosts events to bring Burlingame community members and businesses together and partnered with the Broadway Business Improvement District to bring the sip-and-stroll — which will have two live bands and adoptable dogs from the SPCA in attendance — to life, Baker said.
“We wanted to bring the general public over to Broadway to see what a quaint, unique community it is,” she said.
Tickets can be purchased for $35 plus fees online, or in person at Nuts for Candy & Toys, owned by John Kevranian, president of the Broadway Business Improvement District. Kevranian emphasized that the event will be an opportunity to highlight the diverse array of Broadway businesses.
“We not only have restaurants serving wine, we have a ski shop, a nail salon, hair salons, jewelry stores,” he said. “We have a combination of many varieties of businesses that are participating. It’s going to be a fantastic event.”

Around 350 tickets have been sold thus far, Baker said, meeting organizers’ minimum goal of 300 attendees. She’s hoping that by the time of the event, up to 500 visitors and residents will sign up to participate.
It’s also an excellent opportunity for community members who might be familiar only with Burlingame’s downtown corridor to experience a different part of town, she said.
“Broadway has a very different feel than Burlingame Avenue. Broadway is more of a Main Street America and doesn’t get as much foot traffic as Burlingame Avenue does,” Baker said. “We wanted to help get more people down there, looking at all of their restaurants and visiting — what a better way to do it than to introduce a lot of people through a wine walk?”
On the day of the event, attendees — who must be 21+ to participate in the sipping portion of the sip-and-stroll — will receive a wristband and a wine glass. Kevranian is hopeful that the lively atmosphere will draw long-term customers to Broadway, he said.
“This is a chance to come out and see what we have on Broadway, and come back to do business with these merchants,” he said.
