After more than 1 million square feet in San Carlos office space was acquired by a real estate group known for leasing space to biotech companies last year and a 25,000-square-foot biotech incubator at Brittan Avenue was approved last month, San Carlos officials are exploring what growth in interest from biotech companies might mean for the city.

Flanked largely by Highway 101 and the Caltrain tracks, the city’s eastern industrial zone has long been home to a variety of industrial businesses such as auto repair shops, metal-working studios and a growing number of wineries and breweries in recent years.

Great. And where to they plan to house these thousands of employees??? They state “It’s a very attractive place to live and work and play in,” There are no homes and the play space is being encroached by development. Planners should hold the project accountable for housing, otherwise they are just adding to bridge traffic and gridlock and higher housing prices.

Is the City of San Carlos strictly a business opportunity for Alexandria, an S&P 500® company with a total market capitalization of $16.1 billion, to take advantage of the wonderful community resources found in San Carlos?

Its great to have business growth, but has anyone considered what this will do to the Holly St and Brittan Ave access points that are already hopelessly clogged? Will the end result mean people losing their homes through eminent domain? Will the El Camino intersections on those same streets become untenable?

We need a lot more high density transit oriented housing on The Peninsula

Any large development needs to build housing on its own campus, just like College of San Mateo has. For companies over a certain size, housing for its employees on their campus should be a requirement and these companies should not depend on our cities to provide housing for its future employees. Wake up cities and stop doing the big companies' bidding.

San Carlos city council is so quick to approve ANY building project - but will stop a sporting goods store from doing business....makes no sense....they are leading with their emotions - bad precedent
