The Belmont Police Department says a helmet likely saved the life of a 12-year-old San Mateo boy who crashed his razor scooter into a moving van this week.
Police said the unidentified boy was riding the scooter on a sidewalk at about 3:20 p.m. Thursday when he turned into Old Country Road and was struck by a moving van. Responding paramedics stabilized the boy and took him to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
On Friday, police followed up and found out that the boy's condition had improved and he was awake and coherent.
