A 78-year-old Foster City bicyclist who died on Friday after a car struck him has been identified by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office as Marvin Crockett.
Crockett was an avid biker who moved with his wife Mary Ann to Foster City in 1964, according to a post last year by Mission Hospice & Homecare.
At that time, he was battling pancreatic cancer and early-stage Alzheimer’s disease, the post said, and he started hospice care at the center in the spring.
As of last year, he was still biking nearly 15 miles every day.
Police said Crockett was going east across East Hillsdale Boulevard in the westbound lanes when a blue Toyota Camry struck him as it was going north on Foster City Boulevard.
The collision happened at 11:25 a.m. Friday at East Hillsdale and Foster City boulevards.
Crockett was badly injured when paramedics arrived and they treated him immediately before he was taken to Stanford Hospital for more care. Crockett died at the hospital, police said.
The cause of his death is still under investigation.
