The brawl involved around roughly 30 incarcerated individuals, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said previously, and four sheriff’s deputies received minor injuries and six inmates were transported to hospitals for treatment. The fight broke out between rival groups, according to the DA’s Office, and deputies deployed tear gas to stop it.
Jury trial was beginning for the men who allegedly “started the first melee,” but two, Marvin Ware and Phillip Nimro Wilson Jr., have pleaded no contest to resisting an officer. Ware, who has two felony priors, could be subject to 25 years to life in prison, and Wilson Jr., who also pleaded no contest for separate crimes, faces up to six years in prison.
A mistrial was declared in the case against the third man, Tevita Taunaholo, and the case will be reset. Two remaining men in the first group, Kenneth Arvizu, Jose Amador, have not appeared in court and have $75,00 arrest warrants out.
Jury trial for the men in the second group, which includes Joshua Thomas, Jylyn Richardsongreen, Eddie Burns Jr., Mosese Taunaholo and Malaki Luliolaoa, is expected to begin Aug. 7. They have charges that include assault causing great bodily injury, resisting an executive officer and having a weapon in jail.
