A high-risk registered sex offender who assaulted a 10-year-old girl in a laundromat was sentenced to 10 years in state prison, San Mateo County Chief Deputy District Attorney Shin-Mee Chang said.
Ignacio Rosendo Martinez, a 46-year-old transient, assaulted a 10-year-old girl, who was at a San Mateo laundromat to exchange coins with her 12-year-old sister, by bear-hugging her with his pants down and thrusting his pelvis for about 25 seconds in November 2020. He tried to pull her into a back room. She escaped his tight grip and ran outside where she found her sister. Both went home quickly and told their mother, who called 911, according to police.
He was previously in Napa State Hospital but, after being restored to competency, pleaded no contest to felony lewd act on a child by force and felony failure to register as a transient convicted sex offender.
Martinez has more than five years of time served, but will spend the remainder of his 10-year sentence in prison.
