Transportation options for Outside Lands in San Francisco

To deter concertgoers from driving to the festival, public transportation services will be expanded for some routes, according to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.

Outside Lands strongly advises against driving to the festival due to “extremely limited” parking and expected traffic, according to the festival website. There is no designated event parking, and spots are minimal in the surrounding residential areas.

There will be additional Muni light-rail trains on the N-Judah line from 3 p.m. to midnight Saturday and Sunday. Extra bus service on the 5R-Fulton Rapid line will be provided getting to the festival, operating from 2-p.m. on festival days. Leaving the event, there will be a “5X Fulton Express” bus picking up at Fulton Street and 30th Avenue between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. each night of the festival. It will drop off riders at the Civic Center BART station.

The 38-Geary and 38R-Geary Rapid bus routes, which stop four blocks from the Fulton Street and 30th Avenue festival entrance, will operate as normal and may serve as another option for travelers. Other alternative bus routes that may be subject to crowds include 7-Haight/Noriega, 28-19th Avenue, 29-Sunset, and 44-O’Shaughnessy.

There will also be temporary taxi stands on Irving Street between 26th and 27th avenues, Larkin Street between Hayes and Grove streets, and Fulton Street between 24th and 25th avenues and 28th and 29th avenues.

Loading zones designated for ride-hailing services will be located on the north side of Irving Street between 25th and 27th avenues, the north side of Balboa Street between 30th and 31st avenues, and the west side of 30th avenue between Balboa and Anza streets.

Pick-ups and drop-offs will be strictly prohibited in several areas, including on all streets in Golden Gate Park and on Lincoln Way between 25th and 41st avenues. In the Outer Richmond neighborhood, passenger loading is not allowed from 26th to 37th avenues between Fulton and Cabrillo streets.

Citations will be issued for loading in Muni stops and these “blackout zones.”

Bikes, scooters, and walking are also recommended instead of driving. Outside Lands will offer free bicycle parking at the eastern and southern portions of the festival grounds.

Bay Wheels, which operates a public bike share program throughout the city, will have a special bike stand for the festival on John F. Kennedy Drive, just east of Transverse Drive outside the festival’s main entrance.

Attendees who choose to drive to the festival must follow all street parking rules and be aware of various parking restrictions in the surrounding neighborhoods.

During event days, SFMTA will respond to blocked driveways and vehicles parked on sidewalks on a complaint basis only. Residents with blocked driveways can call 311 if they need a vehicle towed.
