This weekend, many San Mateo County residents of all ages will flock to Golden Gate Park to enjoy the three-day music festival Outside Lands to enjoy plenty of food, drinks and performances.Â
The festival, Aug. 8 to Aug. 10, is hosted throughout the park with more than 100 artists performing on eight stages. Music begins at noon and the jam-packed schedule goes on until 10 p.m.Â
Headliners include Doja Cat, Tyler the Creator and Hozier, and the full roster reflects a diverse range of genres. Other major evening acts will include Vampire Weekend, Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals and John Summit.Â
If you can’t make it out to the festival, Outside Lands has partnered with Amazon Music for an official livestream available on Prime Video.Â
Beyond the music, Outside Lands provides plenty to do. Similar to San Francisco’s various subclimates, the festival has become known for its own, reflecting a vast array of subcultures and interests.Â
Dolores’ is a queer dance floor with iconic drag performances scheduled. The SOMA tent is dedicated to house and techno music outdoors all day long. Grass Lands is a marketplace for those interested in buying weed and smoking.Â
The Mission is a hub of civic engagement with information booths from local nonprofits, and the festival’s own City Hall will marry couples under the eucalyptus trees.Â
Half of the fun of Outside Lands is the slate of food and beverages at the ready throughout the park. WineLands, BeerLands and Cocktail Magic all provide craft, curated alcoholic beverages and Taste of the Bay Area brings over 80 local restaurants to try.
Festival organizers recommend alternative modes of transportation to get to the festival, and discourage parking altogether. A shuttle provides round-trip service from Bill Graham Civic Auditorium — which is near the BART stop — to the festival grounds, with the purchase of a shuttle pass.Â
Outside Lands veterans note the need for layers considering San Francisco’s chilly climate. Weather reports predict sunny days, with high temperatures around 70 degrees, cooling down to high 50s in the evening.Â
Only small bags and purses, or backpacks and bags made of clear plastic, are allowed on festival grounds.Â
