Turnips, a member of the cabbage family, are a nutrient-dense, low-calorie root vegetable full of vitamins and minerals. According to the American Cancer Society, regular consumption of cruciferous vegetables like turnips reduces the risk of cancer. Members of the cabbage-family contain more phytonutrients that protect against cancer than any other vegetable family. That’s why turnips top the list of What’s in Season this week at the San Mateo Farmers’ Market.
