Pro Bowl defensive lineman Bryant Young is questionable for the 49ers' next game after injuring his ribs during San Francisco's loss to Green Bay on Sunday.
Young was kicked in the ribs during the third quarter and didn't return to the game. San Francisco coach Steve Mariucci said Young tore cartilage where his ribs meet his sternum.
Mariucci called Young questionable for Sunday's game at Carolina, though the severity of the injury suggests he's likely to miss at least one game.
"It's possible I could be out there, but we don't decide until once it calms down," said Young, who had difficulty sleeping Sunday night and felt pain while laughing during the 49ers' Monday walkthrough.
San Francisco also lost starting linebacker Winfred Tubbs to a strained hamstring on the first play of the 31-28 loss to the Packers. Mariucci said Tubbs also was questionable for Sunday. Rookie linebacker Julian Peterson, who partially tore a ligament in his knee on Oct. 8 and didn't play Sunday, was ruled out of the 49ers' game against the Panthers. Defensive tackle Reggie McGrew is questionable with a high ankle sprain, while cornerback Zack Bronson has been upgraded to probable after missing the 49ers' last three games with a stinger injury in his neck.
