NEW YORK — Jessica Davenport’s three-point play with 6.9 seconds left helped the New York Liberty remain unbeaten with an 83-82 victory over the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday.
Loree Moore had a career-high 22 points and Davenport added 15 for the Liberty (4-0), off to their best start since opening the WNBA’s inaugural 1997 season 7-0. Erin Thorn scored 11 points, and Cathrine Kraayeveld had 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Cappie Pondexter, who missed a 3-pointer in the final seconds, scored 20 points to lead Phoenix (4-3). Diana Taurasi had 16 points, and Penny Taylor added 15.
The Liberty trailed by five midway through the fourth quarter when Thorn and Shameka Christon hit consecutive 3-pointers for a 74-73 lead with 4:22 to go.
Pondexter’s 3 put Phoenix ahead 80-78 with 1:40 left, and Kraayeveld’s layup 26 seconds later tied the score.
The Liberty won at Minnesota on Friday to begin a stretch of four games in eight days. They play Indiana on Tuesday night and Detroit on Friday night, both at home.
Phoenix, which lost 76-67 at Connecticut on Saturday, was playing on the road for the third time in four nights.

CHICAGO — Candice Dupree had 20 points and 11 rebounds to help Chicago win back-to-back games for the first time in franchise history.
Chasity Melvin added 12 points for the Sky (3-3), who beat Washington 75-70 on Friday.
Seimone Augustus, the WNBA’s leading scorer coming into the game, had 23 points for the Lynx (0-7), who are off to the worst start in franchise history. Nicole Ohlde added 17 points and Lindsey Harding 14.
Mystics 70, Fever 66
INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana was scoreless from the field for a WNBA-record 13:32 to start the game, but hit 31 of 36 free throws to rally past Washington.
Tan White had a season-high 20 points and Tamika Catchings 15 for the Fever (4-0), who had a franchise-record 29 turnovers and did not make a field goal until Tully Bevilaqua’s layup at 6:28 of the second period.
Tamara James led Washington (0-6) with a career-high 17 points. Alana Beard had 13.
