Mitchell Scott, Serra baseball. Entering the Central Coast Section Open Division playoffs as the No. 8 seed, Serra needed a big-game performance to match up with top-seed Willow Glen. Scott delivered that performance as the senior right-hander went the distance in Serra’s 4-1 victory. Scott allowed just one run (none earned) on four hits, while walking two and striking out seven to improve his career CCS playoff record to 3-0 in three starts.
Jessica Eagle, Menlo-Atherton girls’ track. The junior sprinter qualified for the CCS track and field finals in three events with a big showing at Saturday’s preliminaries. She helped the girls’ 4x100 relay team to a time of 48.34 seconds, and also earned a top-eight time in the 200. But her biggest showing came in the 100 as Eagle not only set a personal record, she ran the fastest time in CCS this year with a finish in 12.02.
Sid Chari and Bo Leschly, Menlo boys’ tennis. Fronting Menlo’s undefeated 29-0 record, Chari and Leschly each finished off individual undefeated seasons Saturday at the CIF Northern California boys’ tennis finals. The Knights reveled in a 6-1 victory over Bellarmine to take the program’s 13th all-time Nor Cal crown, with Chari at No. 1 singles winning 6-1, 6-1, while Leschly paired with Clark Safran at No. 1 doubles to win 6-3, 6-1.
Emma Lepisova and Valeriya Nasedkina, San Mateo girls’ swimming. Lepisova, a junior, and Nasedkina, a senior, were the only two swimmers to represent the San Mateo Union High School District at the state swimming championships and both had strong showings. Lepisova finished fifth in the girls’ 100 back with a time of 55.03. Nasedkina made the “B” final in the 50 free, finishing 13th overall with a time of 23.63.
Tanner Anderson, Carlmont boys’ track. The senior qualified for the CCS track finals in two events, including an exemplary time in the boys’ 800 of 1:54.98, a new personal record and the fifth-best time in CCS this season. He also helped the 4x400 team to the third-best time in CCS this year, teaming with Jonaven Kuhn, Caleb Ahn and Ryan Wilson to finish in 3:24.06.

Brooks Taner, Serra boys’ swimming. The junior brought home a pair of bronze medals from the CIF State Swim and Dive Championships Saturday in Clovis. He opened the boys’ 200 medley relay and, along with Alec Cullen, Riley Scanlan and Daniel Gilmartin, notched a time of 1:32.32, breaking their own school record set the previous week at the CCS finals. Then in the 100 fly, he took third in 47.61, falling just shy of his school record from the previous week of 47.59.
Carlee Miller, Notre Dame-Belmont softball. The infielder closed out her junior season on a hot streak that culminated in a 3-for-7 performance in CCS, with two RBIs and two runs scored. She had only one hit in the CCS opener against Westmont, but it was a two-run knock that helped the Tigers to a 6-3 win. In a 7-3 season-ending loss to Santa Catalina Saturday, she went 2 for 3 with a run scored.
Carlo Lopiccolo, Burlingame baseball. Despite taking a 3-1 loss to Mitty in the CCS Division II quarterfinals, the senior pitcher did everything to keep his team in it. He threw a complete game, allowing only three runs while scattering eight hits. He also drove in the Panthers’ first-inning run with an infield hit, plating Savaun Brown, who had led off the game with a triple. Lopiccolo also opened CCS with a 2-for-4 day in Burlingame’s 14-0 win over Aptos, driving in two and scoring two runs as well.
Izzi Henig, Menlo-Atherton girls’ swimming. Henig’s final individual swim for M-A was a silver-medal performance at the CIF State Swim and Dive Championships in the girls’ 100 free, as the senior took second in 49.35 seconds. She also took fourth place in the 50 free with a time of 22.95.
