San Carlos captured the Joe DiMaggio state baseball title by sweeping Tri-County in the championship series Tuesday in Yountville. It is San Carlos' first state title since winning the second of back-to-back championships in 1998.
Coming out of the losers' bracket, San Carlos needed to beat Tri-County twice to win the championship.
In the first game, San Carlos won 14-1 in a game that was shortened to just five innings because of the 10-run rule. San Carlos got the maximum out of the minimum, scoring 14 runs on 14 hits. Wade Reynoso, who was named the tournament's most valuable player, drove in five runs. Kenny Turner had four RBIs while Ryan Scoma and Jesse Lehane drove in two apiece.
Lehane, who was picked up by San Carlos from the San Mateo-Foster City roster, pitched the first four innings, giving up one run, striking out five and walking none. Chris Davidson and Ryan Moskowitz closed out the final inning.
In the winner-take-all finale, San Carlos continued its torrid hitting, shutting out Tri-County 10-0, again in a 10-run rule game.

Once again, San Carlos scored one run for every hit while Lehane, Brian Belli and Moskowitz held Tri-County to just three hits. Lehane was named pitcher of the tournament.
Scoma had another big game, driving in four runs on three hits, including two doubles.
San Carlos placed six players on the all-tournament team: Scoma, Lehane, Moskowitz, Reynoso, Tyler Kaher and Mike Rivera. Reynoso and Rivera each hit over .600 for the tournament while Lehane and Kevin Hinsch were 2-0 on the mound.
San Carlos finished the tournament with a 6-1 record and scored 41 runs in its last three games. It set a record by winning both games of the championship series by 10 runs or more.
