Boys’ basketball
Sacred Heart Prep 61, Justin-Siena 51
All three guards scored in double figures for the Gators (8-4), who brought home a victory from Napa against Justin-Siena (11-3). Senior point guard Drew Wagner popped four 3-pointers to score a team-high 16 points for SHP, while JP Kerrigan added 15 and TJ O’Brien 12. Six different Gators scored from beyond the arc. Justin-Siena sophomore Asa Hightower scored a game-high 18 points.
Mitty 66, Serra 52
The Monarchs (2-0 WCAL, 8-4 overall) opened on a 7-0 run and Serra (1-1, 9-3) never caught up in WCAL action at Morton Family Gymnasium. Senior point guard Ryan Pettis scored 10 points for the Padres, who have now lost four straight regular-season games to Mitty going back to 2021-22. Serra did defeat the Monarchs last season in the semifinals of the CCS Open Division playoffs.
Carlmont 55, Washington-SF 40
The Scots (10-4) got off to a fast start in 2024, throttling to a 22-6 lead in the first quarter and never looked back to get back in the win column at home against Washington (9-7). The Eagles were led by junior Jonah Chiu’s 13 points. It was Carlmont’s first game since a Dec. 30 loss to Amador Valley, a loss that snapped an eight-game winning streak.

Burlingame (8-5) used a 20-5 second-quarter run to win 50-40 at Mills (3-12).
San Mateo (7-7) evened its record with a 57-37 win at Hillsdale (8-5).
South City (8-6) rolled to a 58-18 non-league win at home over Pacific Bay Christian (2-8).
Sequoia (4-9) trailed by a bucket at halftime but rallied for a 62-42 win at home over Priory (5-9).
Half Moon Bay (9-4) marched to a 65-39 home win over Menlo School (6-7).
Capuchino (6-9) took a tough 66-28 non-league loss at Los Altos (8-6).
Terra Nova (6-5) fell 65-51 in Palo Alto to Gunn (9-4).
Girls’ basketball
Summit Shasta 53, Branson 41
The red-hot Black Bears (6-2) won their fourth straight, taking down Branson-Ross (5-10) in Daly City. Senior guard Alexis Cornejo netted her fourth straight 20-plus scoring game, totaling 23 points. Cornejo is averaging 21 points per game. Junior Niesha Ramirez added 16 points, senior Tiffany Lim pulled down 13 rebounds and senior Yelena Reyes totaled four steals.
San Mateo 34, Sequoia 23
Bella Fong poured in 15 points for the Bearcats (10-3), who earned win No. 10 of the season in their first game of the new year. Olivia Salles dominated the boards with 11 rebounds, while she and Yanira Nunez scored six points apiece for San Mateo. After starting the season 4-1, Sequoia (4-6) has now lost five straight.
Vanden-Fairfield 64, Menlo 45
The Lady Knights (5-5) fell in tournament action at Priory to Vanden (9-6). Ruiqi Liu scored a team-high 15 points for Menlo, while senior Arthi Abhyanker added 13, senior center Summer Young totaled a team-high nine rebounds, and junior Karen Xin had three assists.

Capuchino (3-6) won its second straight 56-40 at Oceana (9-5).
Mercy-Burlingame (2-5) fell 59-29 at Aptos (9-5).

Boys’ soccer
Woodside 6, El Camino 0
Senior forward Justin Galvez recorded a hat trick as the Wildcats (2-5-1) scored five times in the first half at El Camino and finished with their biggest single-game scoring output since 2021-22. Senior Daniel Rubio added one goal and one assist, while Alejandro Moreno and Karim Ortiz Reyes added goals. After starting the season with five straight wins, the Colts (5-4-1) have now lost four straight.
Serra 0, St. Ignatius 0
The Padres (1-0-1 WCAL, 5-2-1 overall) traveled to San Francisco for a draw at St. Ignatius (0-1-1, 2-4-1). Serra goalkeeper Rafael Steinberger recorded the shutout, totaling five saves on the day. It was just the second time this season junior Nate Coughlin didn’t score a goal in a game.

Notre Dame-Belmont (2-5-1) earned a 2-1 victory at Hillsdale (5-4).
Woodside (5-2) rolled to a 4-0 win at home over Newark Memorial (5-1-2).

Girls’ basketball
Half Moon Bay 61, Burlingame 43
Delaney Dorwin went to town for a career-high 29 points and the Cougars (10-2) cruised to a big non-league win over Burlingame (8-5) on the Coastside. Dorwin netted 13 of her points in the third quarter, as HMB won the period 23-8. The senior guard added eight rebounds, six steals and five assists. Sophomore center Zoey Lamoge ruled the board with 10 rebounds for the Cougars, while Emily Lunasin totaled eight points. Sara Quosig hit two first-quarter 3s to give HMB the early lead.
Jefferson 60, Immaculate Conception 34
Grace Wang finished with 11 rebounds, six steals and five assists, and three Grizzlies (8-6) scored in double-digits in a non-league victory at home over Immaculate Conception-SF (2-10). Jerzey Gallegos led Jefferson with 15 points, including three 3-pointers, while Izzy Cardona added 12 points and Erin Panaligan totaled 10. Wang scored nine points.
El Camino 33, Washington-SF 26
Senior guard Mariah Flores continued fronting the Lady Colts (4-8), nearly outscoring Washington (4-6) on her lonesome with a game-high 25 points in non-league action in South San Francisco. Flores has now scored 20 or more points four times this season, and it averaging 19.5 points per game. Keilani Der and Kami Madhwan added four points apiece for El Camino.
Mills 54, Live Oak 21
The Lady Vikings (7-4) opened on an 18-8 run and won every quarter at Live Oak-Morgan Hill (9-3). Senior Maya Rafat led the Acorns with 10 points.

Hillsdale (7-4) earned a win via forfeit over Lincoln-SF (6-4).
