South City 70, Westmoor 39
After a tough non-league schedule, the Warriors opened PAL North Division play by cruising past the Rams.
South City (1-0 PAL North, 5-7 overall) took control of the game in the opening quarter, leading 24-6. Alex Salise led the Warriors with a game-high 21 points. Becca Tasi and Gabby Natividad each had 13 points and Jezelle Madrid chipped in with 10.
Eastside College Prep 54, Notre Dame-Belmont 42
The Tigers came up short in their WBAL Foothill Division opener, falling to the Panthers.
Emilia Dougherty led NDB (0-1 WBAL Foothill, 8-4 overall) with 20 points. Alaiyah San Juan added 10 points for the Tigers, who also got six points from Jasmine Masuda.
Mercy-Burlingame 49, Harker 37
The Crusaders outscored the Eagles 30-16 in the second half to win their WBAL Skyline Division opener.
Mercy (1-0 WBAL Skyline, 9-4 overall) was led by Alayne Buban, who finished with 14 points. Mia Calsada added 12 for the Crusaders.
Harker falls to 0-1 in league play and 8-4 overall.
Menlo School 62, Notre Dame-SJ 34
The Knights dominated the first half as they cruised to the WBAL Foothill Division win over the Regents.
Menlo (2-0 WBAL Foothill, 13-1 overall) led 22-4 after one period and then held NDSJ to just one point in the second to lead 48-5 at halftime.
Valentina Ross scored seven points and anchored Menlo’s defense.
Boys’ basketball
El Camino 55, Terra Nova 54
The Colts stunned the Tigers in their PAL North Division opener as Antonio Roussanov scored 22 of his game-high 28 points in the second half.
Roussanov scored 14 points in the fourth quarter alone and was a perfect 8 for 8 from the free-throw line during the game, hitting all six of his free throws in the fourth period.
El Camino (1-0 PAL North, 2-11 overall) trailed by a point, 36-35, heading into the fourth quarter, but outscored Terra Nova (1-1, 9-5) 20-18 over the final eight minute.
Terra Nova had three players score in double figures, led by AJ Orenlas’ 13 points. Jordan Salgado added 12 and Jack Bellinger finished with 10.
Sacred Heart Prep 68, Pinewood 34
The Gators trailed 13-12 after one quarter, but held the Panthers to just 21 points over the final three periods to post the WBAL victory.
Brendan Carney had a big game for SHP (2-1 WBAL, 5-7 overall), scoring a game-high 20 points, including four 3-pointers. Yianni Gardner and Jai Deshpande each added nine points.
Pinewood falls to 0-3 in league play and 8-5 overall.
Half Moon Bay 70, Oceana 40
The Cougars open PAL North Division play by routing the Sharks.
Half Moon Bay (1-0 PAL North, 8-5 overall) led 18-10 after the first period, but pulled away over the next two, outscoring Oceana (0-2, 1-10) 35-12.
Junior Michael Hourani, starting in place of the injured Sorie Syme, led HMB with 17 points on 8 of 12 shooting. Mykola Ediger filled the stat sheet for the Cougars, finishing with 12 points, four rebounds, four assists, three blocks and three assists.
Girls’ soccer
Hillsdale 1, South City 1
The Knights got a second-half goal to forge a draw with the division favorite Warriors.
Aaliyah Schinaman notched the game-tying goal for Hillsdale (1-0-1 PAL Ocean, 3-4-4 overall).
