San Mateo 255, Menlo-Atherton 256
Maya Pande, the Bearcats’ No. 5 golfer, shot a round of 58 to give her team the win over the Bears at Poplar Creek Golf Course in San Mateo.
The match was nip-and-tuck the whole way. Savannah Lee had the low round of the day for M-A (0-8 PAL Bay), carding a 42. San Mateo (3-6) was led by Aurelia Leung, who finished with a 43.
But Alannah Malone’s 49 tied the score for the Bearcats as she finished a shot better than M-A’s No. 2, Linh Nguyen, who carded a 50. San Mateo took a one-shot lead when No. 3 golfer Dhuyti Chandrashekar posted a 50 to a 51 from M-A’s Hadley Collins.
But the Bears vaulted back into the lead by a shot when No. 4 golfer Cleo Benrey came home with a 53, compared to the 55 posted by San Mateo’s Ella Healer.
That meant the match would be decided by the final scoring golfer of the day, where Pande’s round of 58 was two shots better than Evie Filipek, which gave the Bearcats the one-shot victory.
Carlmont 226, Hillsdale 263
The Knights’ Kayla Corcoran shot an even-par 36 for low-round honors, but the Scots’ depth proved to be deeper as they pulled out the win at Crystal Springs Golf Course in Burlingame.
Tessa Lee led Carlmont (5-4 PAL Bay), carding a 3-over 39. Kathryn Winters finished with a 44 for the Scots, Dakota Chang a 46, Caroline Miyazono a 48 and Karuna Mungali a 49 to round out the scoring for Carlmont.
Corcoran was the only golfer for Hillsdale (4-5) to shoot a sub-50 round.
Burlingame 196, South City 222
Playing without No. 1 golfer Elaina Foley, the Panthers didn’t skip a beat, topping the Warriors at Mariners Point Golf Complex in Foster City.
Jolene Liu moved into the No. 1 spot for Burlingame (10-0 PAL Ocean) and shot the low round of the day with a 35. Teammate Arushi Bafna was a shot back with a 36, Cindy Zihn finished with a 40, Judy Hu a 42 and Sienna Evans a 43.
South City (4-6) was led by Zoe Guevarra, who carded a 36. Ashley Lau came in with a 42, Angeleen Bartolome a 45 and Sabrina Ma posted a 46.
Flag football
Carlmont 18, San Mateo 0
The Scots remained undefeated and tied for first place with the shutout of the Bearcats.
Carlmont (3-0 PAL Bay, 8-2 overall) is tied with Menlo-Atherton atop the Bay Division standings. M-A improved to 3-0 with a 14-0 win over Burlingame.
Lauren Greene threw three touchdown passes for the Scots.
Sequoia 36, Capuchino 6
Jamie Elkington had a big game on both sides of the ball in helping lead the Ravens to the rout of the Mustangs.
A senior receiver/defensive back, Elkington caught five passes for 103 yards and two scores for Sequoia (2-2 PAL Ocean, 6-9 overall) on offense. On defense, Elkington had two interceptions, returning both for touchdowns of 40 and 50 yards. Lulu Odom added a pick-6 for the Ravens, as well, returning it 30 yards for the score.
With the loss, Capuchino falls to 1-3 in Ocean Division play and 2-4 overall.
El Camino 32, Jefferson 0
The Colts cruised past the Grizzlies in an Ocean Division matchup.

Yue Yang had a big day for El Camino (3-2 PAL Ocean, 5-4 overall) scoring three times on offense and intercepting a pass on defense. Jherica Lopez added a pair of scores, while Juliana Escobar also picked off a pass.
Jefferson falls to 0-4 in Ocean play and 0-6 overall.
Hillsdale 27, Terra Nova 0
Maddie Regan returned a pair of interceptions for scores to help the Knights to the shutout win over the Tigers.
Hillsdale improves to 4-0 in Ocean Division and is tied with South City atop the division standings. Terra Nova falls to 1-3 in division play.
In other action...
Mills (1-2 PAL Bay, 4-2 overall) picked up its first Bay Division win of the season with a 14-7 win over Aragon (1-2, 4-3).
South City (4-0 PAL Ocean, 4-0 overall) beat Half Moon Bay (1-2, 1-5), 41-18.
Boys’ water polo
Menlo School 18, Mitty 10
The Knights stayed undefeated in West Catholic Athletic League play after downing the Monarchs.
Menlo (5-0 WCAL, 13-2 overall) led 7-4 after the first period and 10-6 at halftime. Leading 13-8 after three, the Knights finished with a flourish, pulling away in the fourth quarter with five goals.
Hunter Coleman continues to fill up the net for Menlo as he scored nine times. Calvin Barad added a hat trick of goals while also adding three assists. Adam Afar, played point guard for the Knights, finishing with five assists while also adding a goal. Goalie Connor Burks finished with 15 saves and also came up with a pair of steals.
San Mateo 16, Capuchino 3
The second-place Bearcats kept the pressure on first-place Aragon with the win over the Mustangs.
San Mateo (5-1 PAL Ocean, 6-4 overall) is one game behind the undefeated Dons.
Nicolai Asmar led the offense for the Bearcats, scoring seven goals. Edward Choi was both helper and scorer. He scored four times and assisted on seven for an 11-point game.

Half Moon Bay (2-4 PAL Ocean) cruised past Mills (0-6), 18-2.

Hillsdale 16, Mercy 2
The Knights remained one game behind first-place Burlingame in the Ocean Division standings after burying the Bears.
Hillsdale (7-1 PAL Ocean, 9-5 overall) got three goals and three assists from Camryn Gutierrez, while Megan Wong added four assists, three steals and a goal for the Knights.
Mercy falls to 1-7 in Ocean Division play.
In other action ...
San Mateo (4-4 PAL Ocean) has little trouble in topping Capuchino (0-8), 19-6.
